FAQ

How accurate will my quote be?

The more precise your requirements the more precise our quote can be. For example, if you want a new bathroom but don’t yet know which suite you want, we can provide you with a labour estimate for the work. Once the suite, the layout, and all the details have been worked out we can send you fixed price labour and consumer materials quote. We are always on hand to give any assistance you need in making those decisions.

Similarly, if you want an extension but do not yet have building regulations approved plans we can provide you with an estimate only. With approved plans we can provide you with a fixed price quote, usually within 5 days. We can offer you details of architects and structural engineers should you require.

How do I make changes to my quote or estimate?

Call or email us and we will make the changes and send you the updated version. We will visit again if necessary.

How do I accept my quote?

Call or email us and we can arrange for a suitable starting date and discuss payment terms.

When do I pay?

We will ask for a deposit before work commences and payment for any goods we supply (i.e. kitchen units, bathroom suite) before installation. The deposit we ask for will be between 10% and 25% of the value of the job depending on the size and type of the job. We recommend the use of the appropriate FMB Contract

How do I pay?

All the information is on the invoice. You can pay by cheque to 'Farland Lewis Ltd', by bank transfer or by online banking. We will accept cash if that is how you would prefer to pay us. We put cash in the bank and are unable to offer discounts for this method of payment.

When will the work be finished?

We will advise how long we estimate the work will take before we begin. Although we will always endeavour to complete projects within agreed times, we do value quality above speed.

Sometimes factors like the weather and sourcing unusual materials mean there are pauses in progress, however, we will not start your job then leave to do another job.

How distruptive will the work be?

That depends on the work we do for you. Sometimes mess and noise are inevitable, although we will always try to keep such disruption for you, your family and your neighbours to a minimum. We will clean up after ourselves at the end of each day.

For particularly disruptive work some of our customers choose to take the opportunity for a short break away, although we would certainly never require this.

How many people will work on my project?

As many as appropriate for the type & size of job. We always endeavour to complete each job efficiently, this may mean throwing as much manpower at a task as can fit in the space, although sometimes this means having only one tradesman on site to give them the space and time to do their job perfectly.

Do you use subcontractors?

Yes. We have a number of full-time tradesmen and we also work with a number of specialist subcontractors. We fully manage each project and that includes accounting for the quality and speed of our subcontractors.

Do you deal with plans and planning permission?

Yes, we offer a full design and build service for new-builds, extensions and structural works, from initial plans to Planning Permission to Buildings Regulations. We are equally as happy to work from plans provided by others.

How do you deal with buildings regulations?

We can submit all the appropriate notices on your behalf, but all fees are payable by you. Further information can be found at www.labc.uk.com

Can you give me references?

Yes, just ask. We are a young firm and already we have plenty of delighted customers.

Do you want a cup of tea?

Oh yes please. Milk, no sugar. Thanks.
